I am still around, recovering from burnout. Turns out sometimes the best you can do is to unplug for a while. Spend time in nature. Make some art. Sit in silence. At least it works for me.

So, as for my wins this week, I would list:

  • Taking care of myself and feeling better
  • Started painting with watercolors 🎨
  • Started writing two more posts on DEV, simply because ideas came to my mind and I felt the need to share (was missing this feeling for a while)

Take care, folks! 💛

Hey Klaudia! I would recommend doing once a week instead of having to do a lot in a week and get burn out on the next. It helps me and If you are planning on consistent post, this is usually ideal. Glad you are feeling okay!

Hey Francis! Thanks for reaching out; your comments somehow always boost my mood 🙂

Do you mean that you set yourself a routine, for example, to write and publish a post on DEV once a week?

Exactly! It is what I have been doing for the past 5 months or so and it work well. @sylwia-lask and @hemapriya_kanagala does the same as well (though I am realizing Hema and I have the same posting schedule which is every monday lol).

Hahaha true! Although sometimes I consider publishing two articles in a week... But usually I'm to busy and I'm staying with one, which is perfectly enough :)

I actually really need to think of some writing/publishing schedule instead of relying on inspiration only 🤔 Stephen King wrote in "On writing" that no matter what, he writes at least 10 pages a day, and that every writer should set such a goal for themselves. I remember thinking, "aha, you can have such a goal if you're a full-time writer, not when you do it after work as a hobby". But probably the case is not 10 pages themselves but regularity.

Thank you for your comments @francistrdev , @sylwia-lask – you gave me a lot of food for thought!

Haha, yes, Francis 😄 I try to post on Monday if I can, or Tuesday at the latest. And Fridays are always Dev Opportunity Radar days for me. Looks like we accidentally ended up with almost the same posting schedule!

And Klaudia, I think having even a loose schedule helps. Mine definitely isn't strict, but having those days in mind gives me something to work toward. And if a topic I really want to write about comes to mind, I usually try to write at least something down while it's still fresh, before the idea gets lost somewhere in my head 😀

Haha @klaudiagrz, I always had the same reaction to King's advice. 😄 It's much easier to commit to 10 pages a day when writing is your full-time job. Otherwise I'm like "ok, maybe let's start tomorrow..." (which of course never happen).

But it works a bit different here on DEV. For me, one article a week (sometimes two if one is lighter) already feels like a healthy pace, especially since technical articles need quite a bit of research and thinking before I even start writing.

I also keep a very loose "editorial schedule." I like to alternate between more philosophical posts and deeply technical ones. Ironically, I usually have too many ideas, but every now and then I realize I'm missing a topic in one category and have to sit down and think about what would fit next. 🙂

As someone who has taken a couple of months to recover from burnout, I feel this. I had completely shut down for a while, but I've decided to get back at it, and I'm making sure to pace myself this time around.

I totally relate to this. Since covid after helping build the 2 first covid emergency response call centers. I was burnt out completely by tech. Had just finished a degree in networking, studying for comptia A+. Suddenly, I just couldn't sit in front of the computer anymore. I would wake up, open my laptop and just stare at the screen for 5-10 minutes. Got to the point i was getting anxiety. I just started getting back on tech about 7 months ago. Thank's to AI, and helping me gather my thoughts and what I really wanted to do in technology if anything at all, tech has always been a passion of mine. Took a few months to just get in the habit of getting in front of my computer and sitting down for an hour a day was a win, w/o anxiety. i spent alot of time outdoors, natture like you said, and that helped clear my head. I became a nature junky, hiking every weekend. I feel ya. There are times when you must unplug and just go out and do something. Now I am much better and managing my time and not sitting in front of a computer until i fall asleep on my laptop, wake up and keep doing whatever i was doing. Take care, and what you did is deff a win. Now I'm starting to try and find my tribe, getting more into dev ops, programming things rather than just the hardware stuff. Also writing articles of all my builds, which I'm about to post a few today that I have back logged. Take care, and if anyone ever starts feeling burn out, get use to the feeling of when to call it a day, you deserve a break, nature, love yourself. The computer and all of us will still be here tomorrow. "Whatever you're building today, keep going" 🚀🔥 -- Voytek

Happy to hear you're getting back to tech as well! You are a great example that it's possible to get back after burnout. Wish you all the best! 🍀

Espicially new people coming into tech. Need to know when to pace your self and feel the symptoms. Nature for sure was and is a huge game changer, some of us tech folk born in front of a screen may take nature for granted and understand how calming and relaxing it is to bring your self to the present instead of thinking about the mistakes from last week, yesterday. Glad you are getting back to it and knew when to stop and pause for a moment before it turned into a situation and walking away from tech for a few years. Which did help tho, working different jobs with a lot of people for a big sporting events. Learned that jobs even when you are surrounded by so many people, actually felt more lonely than working from home alone. Or an office environment that is super quiet. I think I was just wanting a job like back in the days when I had fun at work being an av tech, people got along and were able to talk to eachother. I see how much corporate has changed after being away from it for a decadde. Working from home ain't so bad and lonely. Joining these boards, getting back to social media, finding my tribe. I always had a passion for tech, it runs in my dna. So glad to be back and just taking it slowly and using ai to my advantage to learn things that I had problems learning in school, like coding, devops and the stuff I always wanted to do, but couldn't read thru the boring theory stuff. lol... anyway's didn't mean to hijack your post, i can ramble all day apparently. But this was an awesome first post i saw when just joining this community, and it's cool to know I'm not alone when it comes to balancing our tech life, trying to be more social, nature and gym works wonders for me. Have a great day and thanks for your response back. "Whatever you're building today, keep going!" 🚀 🔥

I just launched a new website this week: the blog section of my company website.

It is a French-only blog, built with Astro 7 and the Stardrive theme.

To launch it properly, I wrote four articles this week, all based on my own experience from years of working with websites, infrastructure, and software projects.

One small technical detail I enjoyed building: I created a custom component specifically for this blog — a reusable CTA block that can be inserted at the end of articles.

Nothing revolutionary, but it is a good example of why I like static site generators: simple architecture, fast pages, and full control over the codebase.

Next step: keep writing and see how the content evolves over time.
